How this figure is constructed
Each Excel row represents one document. In a term map, nodes are terms; in co-authorship, nodes are authors. Node size represents the number of documents in which each node occurs.
Link width represents raw co-occurrence or co-authorship. Distance is derived from normalized association strength: co-occurrence divided by the product of both node occurrence counts. Curved links are a rendering choice only and do not change node coordinates.
Clusters are detected with a deterministic weighted label-propagation procedure; very small isolated groups are consolidated into the connected community with which they share the greatest association strength. The layout starts from a deterministic community grouping and is then optimized using normalized associations. Clusters are numbered from largest to smallest. Each color is a categorical community identifier: it does not represent importance or quality. Each proposed name uses the most frequent term or author; a local glossary suggests its equivalent and the user can edit both versions.
